West Virginia State Parks and Forests are perpetually under pressure from the timber industry and politicians to surrender their remaining old growth trees for the sake of a greasy buck. What happened at Kumbrabow State Forest could happen in many parks across the state. I was completing a degree in forest resource management when this happened at Kumbrabow. 300 year old Oaks, Maples and Cherries are lost forever. There are few, if any, stands still existing as a functioning biome* in West Virginia. And no plan exists that I know of to bring them back. This is a tragedy that made me crazy so I wrote this song. *Biome: a grouping of terrestrial ecosystems on a given continent that is similar in vegetation structure, physiognomy, features of the environment and characteristics of their animal communities. Formation: a major kind of community of plants on a given continent.
