La Malinche is the first piece José Limón choreographed for his own company in 1947. Based on the legendary character of an indigenous Nahua woman who played a key role in the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, the piece speaks to colonialism, betrayal and ultimately reconciliation. These performances of La Malinche are part of the José Limón Dance Foundation’s 75th Anniversary Celebration.
