Work From Home Series (7/20) Lat Stretch Benefits of stretch: ⁣⁣⁣ The latissimus dorsi muscles also known as the lats are the large V-shaped muscles that connect the arms to the vertebral column. They help protect and stabilize the spine while providing shoulder and back strength. If the lats become too tight, they can affect posture by pulling the shoulders down or curving the lower back. Strengthening and stretching the lats is essential in building upper-body strength, improving range of motion and preventing injury. Stronger lats lead to better performance in nearly every exercise such as deadlifts, squats, rows, planks, pull-ups and chin-ups. ⁣⁣⁣ How to do the stretch:⁣⁣⁣ - From a kneeling Child’s Pose position, sink your hips back and place your right forearm along the floor.⁣⁣ - Lean your weight onto your right arm and stretch out your left arm, reaching out through your fingertips. ⁣⁣ - You will then feel a stretch along the side of your torso all the way to the lats.⁣⁣ - Hold the lat stretch for 30 seconds and 3 times per side.⁣⁣⁣ If the stretch cause you any pain, please stop immediately and seek professional advice.
