Work From Home Series (1/20) Upper Back Stretch ⁣⁣ Benefits of stretch: ⁣⁣ Upper back pain and tension are common complaints, particularly when a lot of time is spent hunched over desks or computers. Muscles of the upper back and neck can become tight and weak with sustained positions, limiting their strength potential and extensibility hence reinforcing bad postural habits. This upper back stretch helps align the spine and releases muscle knots, tightness and tension. It promotes better posture and is useful for people who sit for extended periods. Avoid foam rolling lower than the mid-back which is where the rib cage ends.⁣ ⁣⁣ How to do the stretch:⁣⁣ - Find a space on the floor ideally. Begin by lying on your back with the foam roller positioned where your shoulder blades are. ⁣ - Interlace your fingers behind your head to support your neck, relax and lie into the foam roller. Ensure that your back is arched and extended. Your knees should be bent with your feet flat on the floor.⁣ - Slowly start to roll up and down, stopping at tight muscles along the way.⁣ - Hold for 30 seconds along tight areas and repeat 5 times daily.⁣ ⁣ If the stretch causes you any pain, please stop immediately and seek professional advice.
