Lighthouse Lab – Coastal Erosion
#lighthouselab #ngscience #erosion #coastal #engineering #stem One of the ways the surface of Earth changes is by weathering and erosion. Weathering is the breaking down of rocks into smaller pieces. Erosion is the process whereby weathered rock is moved to new places. The rocks on Earth are constantly being weathered and eroded by crashing waves, roaring rivers, torrential rains and other processes. Weathering and erosion changes the Earth’s landforms. Such changes generally occur too slowly to notice from day to day or even from year to year. The changes usually occur slowly over millions of years. Sometimes, in the event of extreme weather, landslides, large ocean waves or floods, weathering and erosion can occur rapidly.
