Logan Driver Training Tips c class
✅ Pre-Test Preparation 1. Vehicle check and roadworthiness o Make sure the car you’re using is legal, safe and ready: indicators, brake lights, mirrors, tyres all good. o Ensure you have permission to use the vehicle, your learner licence present, L-plates correctly displayed. o If your car has driver-assist features (like lane-assist, etc), you must still demonstrate full control without relying on them. 2. Understand what the test involves o For a C-Class practical driving test in Queensland you’re expected to show safe, lawful driving, correct observations, hazard awareness, proper lane discipline. o Critical errors (“instant fails”) must be avoided — e.g., failing to stop at red lights, ignoring stop signs, dangerous lane changes, speeding. 3. Familiarise yourself with the local route & tricky spots o The Logan routes often use roads such as Civic Parade, Jacaranda Avenue, Wembley Road, Kingston Road and roundabouts along Bardon Road/Third Avenue. o One intersection commonly referenced is the “Civic Parade / Jacaranda Avenue” start. Learners call it the “money tree” intersection because many make errors there. o Practice those specific roads and intersections in the days before the test, so you are comfortable with them, not surprised. 4. Mock run / last-minute lesson o Consider a pre-test lesson with a local instructor who knows Logan’s test centre and routes well — it will boost confidence. o Get plenty of restful sleep the night before, arrive early at the test centre (200 + say 20 minutes before) so you’re calm and ready. 🚦 On the Test Day — Specific Tips for Logan Area 1. Start strong o When you pull up for the test, ensure L-plates displayed, vehicle arranged, you’re in the correct lane and ready. o At the “Civic Parade / Jacaranda Avenue” junction, make your mirror/blind-spot checks early, signal clearly and decisively. Many errors happen here. 2. Hazard awareness especially around rail crossings and school zones o Some routes may include train-crossing areas (e.g., railway parade near train lines) where extra scanning is essential. o Be alert for school zones that may continue around corners or change speed limit after turns. One narrator in Logan said learners often were caught by speed-increase too early. 3. Roundabouts & lane discipline o Logan’s routes include multiple roundabouts (e.g., via Bardon Road/Third Avenue). Approach at controlled speed, give-way correctly, signal as you exit. o On multi-lane roads/intersections, ensure you maintain correct lane position, look for signs, don’t drift or change lanes without clear reason. 4. Speed & flow o Match your speed to the conditions: not too slow (can cause a fail) and obviously not too fast. Maintain smooth control. o When merging into a faster road (for example along Wembley Rd to Kingston Rd) demonstrate you can safely keep up with traffic, signal, check mirrors. 5. Manoeuvres & reversing o Although the route may focus on general driving, be ready for a 3-point turn, U-turn (especially in a cul-de-sac), or reversing exercise. For Logan one learner reported a cul-de-sac turn-around as part of the test. o Do your scanning, tell yourself “mirror-signal-shoulder” for every lane change/turn. 6. Stay calm and listen to the examiner o If any instruction is unclear, ask the examiner to repeat it. Better to clarify than guess. o Maintain good posture, keep both hands on the wheel (unless signalling), stay focussed. o Don’t overcompensate — drive as you would safely in normal conditions. 🔍 What To Avoid • Failing to stop properly at a stop sign or red light — this is an immediate fail in Queensland. • Unsafe lane changes: failing to check blind spots/mirrors, changing lanes without indication, drifting between lanes. Especially important on Jacaranda Ave / Civic Parade where many errors occur. • Driving too slowly and impeding traffic or making other road users take evasive action. • Being distracted: using phone, not being fully in control. • Using driving-assist tech as an excuse: if your car has ADAS you must show you can drive without relying on it. 🎯 Final Checklist for the Learner • Vehicle is safe, legally registered, tyres/brakes/indicators okay • L-plates, supervisor/licence present, identity documents sorted • Arrive at least 15-20 minutes early, familiar with test centre (e.g., Logan Central) • Practised the local roads & tricky intersections in Logan area • Show good mirror/blind-spot discipline, correct signals, proper lane usage • Maintain safe speed, good hazard awareness (rail crossings, school zones) • Approach roundabouts confidently with correct yield & signalling • Be ready for a manoeuvre turn-around or reversing exercise • Keep calm, listen to examiner, ask questions if needed
