Lost Premiere
In the shadows of a child's form, Dwells an old soul, weary and torn. Eyes reflect tales left unsaid, Silent screams within his head. Playground laughter fades, Isolation shades. Time's cruelest jest, A lonely nest, Lost. A successful performance of this piece is dependent on how good a job you did forming your own interpretation of the poem and its relation to the music. Listeners have the most thought-provoking experience when they read the poetry and listen to the music. The following are a few tips to help guide your ear: I. Wandering is almost child-like in sound, as I imagined a child skipping with denser harmonies implying the older soul behind the child's body. At times the child shines through, but inevitably the old soul inside is the only one to remain. II. Remembering is a lament softly reflecting upon old tales of what was or what used to be. It is an extremely delicate and soft movement featuring the same musical anagram (tone-row) from "The Epiphany". III. Anger is the loudest, most dissonant, and most technical of the movements. It is unrelenting in nature and features constant abrupt changes in timbre and character. IV. Lost, the titular movement, is a combination of all the previous thematic materials enveloped in one last cry out, as if time itself has caused the story to feel even more lost within the narrator's mind. 0:00 Speech 1:23 Performance Lost was completed March 16, 2026 in Waco, Texas.
