Mother's Day 2026: Today is a beautiful day honoring all the wonderful mothers, but it is also a very hard day for many mothers (and fathers). The burden of alienation and estrangement is a very real epidemic in the world today. Unforgiveness, hurt, traumatic experiences, anger, bitterness, spiteful vengeance or simple misunderstandings have robbed many parents from having relationships with their children and children from their parents. I know because I’m one of those parents. I rarely talk about it, because for years I was ashamed toe even admit it. I mostly tried to ignore it and wouldn’t dare talk about it to friends or coworkers. When conversations came up about kids, I’d say a few words and then quickly change the subject. What do you say about a child who you haven’t heard from for years. No contact, no shared experiences, no stories. It’s like losing a loved one, but the difference is they are still alive but treat you as if you were the one who died. I came to a point where I couldn’t carry it any longer and that’ s when I realized Jesus was always there waiting for me to give it over to Him. He had already taken my shame on the cross, I just needed to give it to him and receive His grace. He has healed my brokenness and given me new hope – not I’m not simply waiting for things to change but knowing that He is always working for my best interest and He is in control. Of course, I feel pain I’m human and because love never ends. But now I have this peace knowing He’s healed the deep pain, and he’s taken away the shame. He can do the same for you!
