Making an awl
An Awl is one of those incredibly usefull tools that is often over looked due to its simplicity. I needed one for an upcoming project and it had been on my mind for a while to make one. I started with a piece of hardwood from a pallet that had some nice markings and colour to it and glued up a block and turned it on the lathe. Once I had the handle shapped and sanded I cut a slot in to the space for the ferrule which I left slightly over sized. For the ferrule I used a piece of 1" copper pipe, the ferrule helps protect and strenghten the end and ands some clampping pressure too. Once it was altogether I sanded the bottom face smoth cleanned up and buffed the copper, then gave it a coat of dannish oil to protect it and show off the colours in the wood. Hoped you enjoyed this one, I love to hear your comment and thought so please feel free to comment rate and share it around. Thanks.
