Food-service jobs often pay $7.25 an hour. That is the federal minimum wage. The first minimum-wage law was passed in the 1930s. The law was meant to be a solution. It was meant to make sure that workers earned enough money to survive. Today, many workers have a problem with the minimum wage. They say it is too low. As a result, they cannot pay their bills. Some workers must rely on food stamps. They do not make enough money to buy food — even if they work seven days a week. So, some workers are now banding together. They decided to demand higher wages. They say a higher wage would help solve their money problems. It would also stimulate the economy because people would have more to spend. In response, some employers are complaining. They say that paying higher wages would have a negative impact on business. That would hurt everyone. So, should workers get a raise?
