This session presents a systems mapping case study conducted by RIAHSAH Co. in Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality, Limpopo, South Africa.
The study explores the dynamics of the smallholder farming system, focusing on how social, technological, economic, environmental, and political factors interact to shape farming outcomes. By mapping these relationships, the work helps to make visible the complexity behind everyday farming practices and the conditions influencing growth and sustainability.
The systems map also highlights key leverage points that can inform interventions aimed at strengthening the sector and supporting pathways toward more commercialised farming approaches.
