Maryland Food Insecurity Map Tutorial
This is a step by step demonstration of how to navigate the Maryland Food Insecurity Map. Access the map by visiting the Maryland Food System Resiliency Council (FSRC) website. https://mdem.maryland.gov/pages/food-resilience.aspx About the Maryland Food Insecurity Map: The Maryland Food Insecurity Map is a comprehensive mapping tool developed by the Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT) and Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM) in coordination with the Maryland Food System Resiliency Council (FSRC). This tool allows users to visualize factors contributing to food insecurity across Maryland in order to identify gaps in service and promote a more equitable food system. Community members, policymakers, government agencies, and food assistance providers can use this tool to inform policy development, guide operational decisions, and identify supply chain vulnerabilities. Maintenance of the map is jointly managed by DoIT and MDEM’s Risk Analysts. While the map contains many data sources, it is not all-inclusive and may contain information gaps. Users are encouraged to supplement this tool with additional Maryland food systems maps including the Maryland Food Bank Hunger Map, Maryland Community Business Compass, and Maryland Business Map which includes all food-related businesses in the state. The Maryland Food Insecurity Map is intended to be updated over time as new information emerges.
