“Beauty Exists Without Translation” is a confession disguised as a hymn—an unraveling of the belief that love means taking on the hurt meant for someone else. It’s about the exhaustion of trying to absorb other people’s pain, to act as a buffer between them and the cruelty of the world. The song traces the collapse that follows: when protection becomes self-erasure, when even good intentions corrode the self that carries them. It moves through three states of reckoning: the dark, where isolation feels necessary to contain the damage; the breaking point, where that containment fails and the pain turns inward; and the quiet light that follows, where beauty no longer needs permission to exist. The refrain—“There’s no good in isolation / No point to self-damnation / Or redemption with condition / Beauty exists without translation”—is a diagnosis, not a prayer. It names the compulsion to atone for what was never yours to fix and gently releases it. By the end, what remains isn’t transcendence but recognition: beauty doesn’t require you to hold the world together. It just asks to be witnessed. Like the meadowlark, you don’t have to earn the right to sing—you only have to remember that you still can. The meadowlark doesn't sing to change the field. It doesn't sing to earn anything. It just sings because that's what it is. — I spent my life in the dark Always trying to be a healer And I never stopped not once Caught in an endless seizure The lessons came many and stark I took pride in knowing nothing Like a sage of blind affection Yet all the while I was judging Pretending I knew how to cope Calling any hope inexcusable With nothing but endless spite Rarely said I could see the beautiful There's no good in isolation No point to self-damnation Or redemption with condition Beauty exists without translation There's no good in isolation No point to self-damnation Or redemption with condition Beauty exists without translation Why I asked what was the flaw I mistook saving for healing Blamed myself when others fell Cursed the world blamed the vultures The beautiful can be dangerous as with naming the sublime You can't keep it or capture it only become it or go blind There's no good in isolation No point to self-damnation Or redemption with condition Beauty exists without translation Don't ever cage the butterfly or try to capture a wave Nothing ever will satisfy by mirroring what we crave Let go of control of outcome that is one way to find peace Not shaping another soul is the best way to truly see There's no good in isolation No point to self-damnation Or redemption with condition Beauty exists without translation Peace is never easy All part ways with the dark Release the ghosts of the past Live as would the meadowlark We choose where we dwell at least from the inside out Hell needs no definition be yourself without doubt Beauty exists always there to see When everything is broken at least we choose what to be We choose what to be
