Meet Charro

Charro is a wild caught 25 year old male Blue and Gold Macaw he was purchased by a woman when he was 2 1/2 years old she kept him for 22 years till she moved and had to give him up. He was not handled at all she quit when he was young because he started to go through "that" stage coming into sexual maturity. He has never been caged and ruled the roost which really shows as he can have his bouts of extreme moodiness. He was turned over to a rescue in Iowa where we got him. He came home with us on Saturday. He has a nice vocabulary and says I love Charro, C'mon, Go lay down, Thank you, shutup, hello, Yahhh!, goodbye, apple, what, huh, whatcha doin, I love you, Ralph, Lalalala, Hi Low, Hi, bad bird, good, and of course blossom. And has a very contagiuos laugh And a few words we cannot understand yet. He can scream with the best of them but is not as ear piercing as the conures. He has never flown and has been clipped his entire (confined) life. He loves his baths and has a very hearty appetite. We are blessed to have him as a member of our family. He will step up but is hand shy when it comes to being petted we are slowly working on that. He is a dancing machine but of course he refused to that while recording him maybe another time. The song playing is one he responds to well and seems to enjoy.
