Midnight Machine started with a simple lick. Just me messing around on acoustic guitar… then playing it faster and faster until it stopped sounding like strings and started sounding like tires fighting pavement. I kept scratching the pick across the strings to create friction… almost like rubber starting to burn. Then the percussion kicked in. The beat kept building and building until it finally exploded. That was the whole idea behind the song. Not really about cars themselves. More about the feeling of them. Late nights. Empty streets. Adrenaline.
