Mini Goblet Squat | Functional Strength Exercise Series
Modified Goblet Squat to Elevated Chair is a controlled lower-extremity strengthening exercise designed to improve squat mechanics, develop functional hip and knee strength, and reinforce proper lumbopelvic alignment. Performed while holding a weight at the chest and squatting to a chair or box set at an elevated height, this variation reduces depth demands and load on the knees and hips, making it ideal for early strengthening or for patients with mobility limitations. The movement emphasizes a hip-dominant pattern with a neutral spine, encouraging the patient to sit back with control, avoid knee collapse, and maintain balanced weight distribution through the feet. It enhances quadriceps and gluteal activation, improves movement confidence, and helps correct compensations such as excessive forward trunk lean. This exercise is especially valuable in rehabilitation for knee osteoarthritis, patellofemoral pain, post-surgical lower-extremity strengthening, or general movement retraining.
