College Trigonometry Chapter 11, Topic 4—Navigation Example Using Vectors
This is a classic example of applying vectors to a navigation problem. The mathematics is the same as in adding forces together. The direction and speed of an airplane and the wind are both described in polar form, but both must be converted to rectangular form before adding together.
