College Trigonometry Chapter 11, Topic 4—Navigation Examples Using Vectors The first example is a classic problem of applying vectors to a navigation problem. The mathematics is the same as in adding forces together. The direction and speed of an airplane and the wind are both described in polar form, but both must be converted to rectangular form before adding together. The second example involves navigation. Although using vectors to solve this problem is viable, it is also tricky and longer than necessary. But it makes for great learning. A shorter solution without vectors is given afterwards, not quite as tricky, and also a shorter solution.
