Newcastle Garbage

I was in Newcastle 3 years ago on a hot Monday morning in the western suburb of Kotara. After about an hour and a half spent riding the bike around, I'd managed to video four different trucks within the one suburb; this on garbage, an old Hino on recycling, the clean-up truck and a smaller council rear loader used for tight access. Never before has a visit to a single council been so easy and successful! I was meant to upload these videos a couple of years ago, but obviously didn't, so seeing as I'm getting rid of the old footage, this has been something eyed off a few times. I first saw one of these Newcastle Sidepaks on Google ages ago and knew I had to get one on video. I'd also become aware of 1 or 2 new trucks so I thought it may be hard tracking one of the oldies down through such a large area. Conveniently it turned out there were many more Sidepaks than new MacDonald Johnstons. Just after I realised the clean-up guys were having a break, I recognised an Iveco sound whick I knew wasn't the recycling as it was done, wasn't the clean-up truck as it was in front of me, wasn't a GenV as it didn't have the right sound, so concluded it was a Sidepak! Apparently there's still one of these around, but otherwise most of the existing fleet has been upgraded to 2011 model MacDonald Johnstons. I plan to return in the future to get some footage of the new trucks, including the new green-waste service which kicked off only recently in the council. Also something I noticed, it looks like the council has advertising on this truck; if I recall right the others were quite the same. The upload for next week is recycling and the week after will be the rear loaders.
