Newcastle Recycling

This is one of the trucks you can find collecting recycling in Newcastle at present. As far as I know, most of the recycle fleet consists of these single-axle Hinos with an older MacDonald Johnston body on the back. However, I recently discovered they had a 6x4 version of this and I've also previously seen a picture of an ACCO in the Newcastle livery. Unfortunately, this was the only recycle truck which ended up in front of the camera on that sunny Monday a few years ago. You might also notice the curved steel plate sitting above the hopper; I can imagine it's there as a windshield. On the 19th of November Solo Resource Recovery is due to take over the recycling contract upon renewal, which means Thiess has been providing the service since at least 2002 - I bet these trucks can't wait for retirement! Hopefully I'll make it back up north ASAP so I can get the trucks in action while they're still in near pristine condition.
