The Nexgen Magicube is a 3D printed cube lit up by LEDs. The project itself includes all the usual skills involved in a Nexgen STEM project, 3D modelling, 3D printing, basic electronics, assembly and coding. The Magicube is not your average light! When you start it up, it lights up according to the ambient temperature - in other words if it is a cold day, it will light up blue/green. If it is a hot day then yellow/pink/red. The Magicube also contains an accelerometer so that when it is moved/tilted it changes colour. However the thing that makes it "magic" is that it also changes the colour of every other cube in the room. You might think that it is using WiFi or Bluetooth here but it isn't. It allows for some interesting programming possibilities! Each of our STEM courses from this point on will contain a STEM challenges for the students. In this case it will be regarding light diffusion. We will of course have a stock solution up our sleeves but it will be fun to see what the students come up with.
