Nicola Jackson: Creativity Around Every Corner

South Coast artists. One trail. Endless stories. Nicola Jackson is an award winning artist and printmaker originally from the UK, now working from her studio in Island Bay, Wellington New Zealand. Her works are an extension of her previous career as a successful print designer, selling work to leading companies including Marc Jacobs, Disney and Calvin Klein. Using multiple layers of screen printing, acrylic, collage or ink, Nicola’s work is inspired by her intense love of colour, marks and textures. Her process is highly involved and laborious in the way it builds depth, texture and tactility through the layering techniques she employs. A piece of her art may consist of 5 to 60 layers, and it can be hard to tell which pieces are more minimal in their execution. Consequently, each of Nicola’s pieces are truly one-offs and almost impossible to replicate. “Colour, is the thing that really inspires me ... really drives me to find that unusual colour relationship or complimentary colour relationship and difference of how to draw one flower or one vase”, says Nicola.
