This is a video lecture about overlay, one of the basic vector operations you typically perform using GIS. Polygon overlay was pioneered by Ian Mc Harg before GIS was common, by using transparent layers and a light table. Overlay operations are of many kinds and this video provides examples of the most common ones with reference mainly to the QGIS software but also some to ArcGIS and Grass.
