Over-training is, in reality, something that the vast majority of people cannot even achieve, as they quit far before then, but overreaching is certainly doable. Twice a year, I take a short one to two week break from training. In the preceding one to two weeks, I purposefully increase my training volume, to the point where I feel a bit worn down, and my performance actually starts to suffer slightly. Normally, you don't want any session or any time period to be overly fatiguing, as you are better off playing the long game, and going for more frequent training. With that off of the table, it makes sense to go big and really attack volume for a little while. This can activate satellite cells and increase growth potential...at least in theory. I find that it works fairly well, I stay active during the break, just don't do any formal gym workouts. Geoff's Fully Custom Training Plans and One-on-one Mentorship?
