The current in the cell is 10 A as shown. What is the current in the 2.0 ohm resistor?
A 0.35 A
B 2.86 A
C 3.50 A
D 7.14 A
In this video, I will explain how you can solve this question using the 3 rules of parallel circuits. I'm going to tell you straight off that the answer is B, but many of my students arrived at this answer using the wrong method. They that the fractional current that the 2 ohm resistor would have is 2/7 of the 10 A current. Although this is the correct answer, this method is incorrect and wouldn't have worked had the question asked for the current in the 4 ohm resistor or the 1 ohm resistor.
