In this video I am demonstrating how to perform internal pelvic floor massage with a pelvic wand. This is great for tightness in the pelvic floor and hips that causes pain or bowel/bladder dysfunction. It can also help with hip pain and back pain! Instructions: 1) Clean your hands and the pelvic wand. Find a calm and safe environment where you can be uninterrupted. Lay back in a comfortable position propped up on pillows with your knees bent. You can also perform standing with one leg up on the edge of the tub. Place a small amount of high-quality water-based lubrication on the tip of the pelvic wand (a little goes a long way). 2) Insert the fatter end of the wand into the vaginal opening (depth is based on which tissue you are tightest in - see general guide below). Gently press the wand towards your tailbone (6 o’clock position). You should feel a bit of stretching and potentially burning. -For layer 1 (superficial), insert wand an inch or two. -For layer 2 (middle), insert wand to the first bend. -For layer 3 (deep), insert wand just beyond the bend. 3) Hold this pressure for about 45 seconds. Make sure to focus on deep, relaxing breaths. 4) Release the pressure and move the wand over a small amount (5 or 7 o’clock). Gently press down and to the side in this position. Hold this pressure for about 45 seconds. 5) Repeat this process until you have worked the entire pelvic floor. Spend more time on areas that feel tight and/or painful. Repeat exercise as prescribed by your physical therapist. Tips: -Make sure you are fully relaxed when performing to decrease pain and increase effectiveness. -Only use the amount of pressure that you can tolerate. You DO NOT want to be causing severe pain or guarding in the muscles. -Focus on big belly breaths while performing. -Make sure to use high quality water-based lubrication ONLY. silicone based or natural oils might degrade the silicone wand. -Clean and sanitize the wand with each use. -Intimate Rose has different pelvic wands with other features that can be very helpful including one that vibrates to increase muscle relaxation and one that can be hot or cold. They also have a longer, bendable wand if you need help reaching.
