Polybird - GET BEAT (Full Album)

"Drum pop" is a good way to describe this album in only two words, but it isn't the whole story. "GET BEAT" is an album that aims to beat you out of a bad mood and motivate you to find your way out of the ditches, holes, and boxes we all get beat into at one point or another. It isn't pulling any punches with opener "Pop & Scratch", but by the end it concludes with the methodical 7 minute finale "Get Beat, Get Up". No two tracks are exactly alike, but the common thread you will hear is a unique blend of propulsive & intricate hip-hop inspired rhythms with cheerful, catchy melodies that go for a percussion forward, "less is more" approach. Despite being somewhat cold on the surface, every drum hit tastes like a burst of life. The wildly expressive beats are accompanied by a variety of ideas that showcase the album's vivid personality. Whether it be uncommon time signatures, eccentric samples, uplifting mood-brighteners, or a song from a fictional animal band, you're always left wondering what will come next.
