Prefix Power
Prefix Power is an engaging educational rap designed to strengthen vocabulary, morphology, and reading comprehension skills for middle and high school students — while still being accessible and fun for younger learners. Originally inspired by working with struggling 10th grade readers, this song was created after noticing a major gap in students’ understanding of prefixes and word parts. Many students were able to read words aloud but struggled to break down unfamiliar academic vocabulary, which directly impacted reading comprehension, confidence, and overall literacy growth. This animated, game-inspired video combines music, rhythm, and repetition to help students learn: • Common prefixes • Prefix meanings • High-level academic vocabulary • Word analysis strategies • Morphology skills • Reading comprehension support Although the video has a fun animated gaming style, the vocabulary and concepts are intentionally designed for upper grades, intervention groups, and students who need additional support with decoding and comprehension skills. Perfect for: ✔ Middle School ELA ✔ High School ELA ✔ Reading Intervention ✔ Vocabulary Development ✔ ACT Prep ✔ Small Groups & Literacy Centers ✔ Morphology & Word Study Students can listen, learn the song, remember the prefixes, and apply those word-part strategies to what they read in class and in everyday life.
