Queen rearing made simple. Part 1 - The Vertical split

This instructional video demonstrates how carry out a vertical split to produce queens. As an added bonus, it can also be used as a method of swarm control. It does not require the beekeeper to have any specialist equipment. The video covers some theory about queen rearing, and the actual practice of how to carry out a vertical split. The film is divided into 4 parts. The 1st part: queen rearing theory. The 2nd part: a dummy run demonstration as to how to set up a Vertical split. The 3rd part: filmed in the apiary 10 days earlier - setting up the split The 4th & final part: 10 days later, back in the same apiary - setting up Nucs with new Queen cells. The two instructors are Chris Dale and Roger Pool from the Halifax Beekeepers Association (HBKA), other members of the Association are in attendance. The video was shot in West Yorkshire in May 2024.
