Revelation Chapter 9 – The Fifth and Sixth Trumpets
In Revelation chapter 9, John records the sounding of the fifth and sixth trumpets, revealing two of the most sobering judgments in Scripture. The chapter opens with the fifth trumpet, where a fallen star is given the key to the bottomless pit. From it emerge locusts unlike any seen before—creatures not sent to destroy the earth, but to torment those who do not bear the seal of God. Their power is limited by God, reminding us that even in judgment, the Lord remains fully sovereign.
The sixth trumpet releases four bound angels at the Euphrates River, unleashing an army of unimaginable size. Through fire, smoke, and sulfur, a third of mankind is killed. Yet even after witnessing such devastation, humanity still refuses to repent of idolatry, violence, immorality, and deception.
Revelation 9 is a powerful reminder of the seriousness of sin, the reality of spiritual warfare, and the patience of God, who continues to call people to repentance even in the midst of judgment. This chapter urges us to examine our hearts, turn away from sin, and place our trust in Jesus Christ while there is still time.
