Ref-Ed.com - the online site for roller derby referee training. --- UPDATED FOR THE 2017 WFTDA/MRDA RULES RELEASE --- Star Passes used to be a rare thing - a few years ago star passes were rare; but now it’s just as rare that a game goes by without a star pass. Frequently there are several during a game. Part of that change is because the mechanics for star passes are much simpler, and so it’s much easier for teams to take advantage of it, just like it’s much easier for referees to keep track of them. But now that they’re a popular and almost inevitable part of any game, we’re seeing more strategies built up around star passes, which, you guessed it, can makes things once again complicated for jammer referees. This module is not just for jammer referees - some of the newer tactics, such as the “Star Stash”, require help from all the referees on the track, in order help the jammer referee stay with the jammer… whoever that may be.
