Roxy responding with enthusiasm to her emergency word, “look,” turning on a dime and running back to her owner.
We teach a separate emergency word so owners have a reliable way to get their dog’s attention if the dog chooses not to respond to their name. Many dogs stop responding consistently because their name becomes overused in everyday conversation and loses meaning through learned irrelevance.
Roxy is currently working on skills to help her navigate seeing other dogs more calmly, and having a strong emergency word is an important part of that process.
