Running API samples - serum HCG

API - American Proficiency Institute provides our lab with "proficiency" samples to ensure that our testing staff and machines are generating appropriate results. We submit results to API who then tells us if our result is accurate, allowing us to identify potentially bad testing technique or analyzer problems. Serum HCG - 1.) Remove specimen and allow to warm to room temperature. Limit amount of time sample is at room temperature to less than 2 hours at a time. 2.) Turn on the analyzer and press "menu". 3.) Select "quality tests". 4.) Select "proficiency". Enter "1234" as the lab login. 5.) Enter the specimen number (example: HCG 08 would be "08", HCG 03 would be "03", etc.) as the proficiency ID. 6.) Scan the cartridge you will be using. 7.) Draw up and dispense the reagent as you would with a control or patient specimen, ensuring the reagent goes up to the marker arrow. 8.) Close the tab and insert the cartridge. 9.) On the "attestation sheet" please print your name, the date, and the sample you're running (EG: HCG 09).
