A pretty standard tuney tune immediately gets varied in another key, and then there’s a kind of solemn refrain. This kind of thing happens a couple of times, with the overall feeling being maybe a bit like a couple of things in later Beethoven—and I’m certainly reminded of that lad whose music was such a cherished companion during my mid-to-late teen years. Despite the title (which I may have used in an earlier compositional sequence?) and the simplicity of the main theme, I feel some disquiet in this.
