This Arcadian little thing was going to be called ‘Brat’, but I felt that the title would be off-putting, so looked for something to do with nymphs and shepherdess, like Chloe, until I realized that the Japanese girl’s name Botan would be more like the character of what I want.
Structurally it’s roughly ABBABBC and moves from a chromatic C Major through various tonalities before closing in B major, although its character is may only a little like a portion of a famous opera that does something similar (‘I leave the identity of that work as an exercise for the reader’). It’s also a bit reminiscent of a piece of mine from 1983 that I presented a few months ago. While I wrote most of it almost a year ago, I made some changes on this 17th of April 2026 to allow it to make a little more sense, and to be easier for me to play.
