Creating your own custom symbols in SOLIDWORKS is a long and complicated process. Using Sketch Blocks to create and instance custom symbols is an easy workaround that is functional and shareable. The simple steps to do this are:
1. Sketch and dimension the symbol
2. Convert the sketch into a sketch block
3. Add Attributes for the notes in the sketch (for simple instancing)
4. Save the block to a .sldblk file
5. Add the file location to your or others’ SOLIDWORKS System Options\File Locations\Blocks
