Solving ATEs
This is the first video in the Solving ATEs Supplement to SCoRE, a Self-Study Course on Reaction Engineering (https://buffalobadger.github.io/SCoRE/). SCoRE is based on the online book, “Reaction Engineering Basics” (https://buffalobadger.github.io/RE_Basics/). Many reaction engineering analyses require the solution of a set of algebraic-transcendental equations, or ATEs. Often the equations cannot be solved analytically, and in SCoRE and Reaction Engineering Basics they are almost always solved numerically. Hence, it is essential to know how to solve a set of ATEs numerically. 0:00 Intro 0:32 Overview 1:30 ATE Solver Input 2:44 Residuals Function 4:17 How ATE Solvers Work 5:44 Convergence and Solver Issues 6:55 ATE Solver Return Values 7:49 Formulating the Calculations for Solving ATEs 9:48 Example Formulation 10:40 Solving ATEs Summary I hope you found this video to be informative. Take care. Recorded June 2025
