Spanioletta An outline of the dance can be found in the manuscript "Douce 280" (Bodleian Library). The dance is dated at around 1606 (Wilson 1988) or 1630 (Sabol 1978). This is a modern interpretation and the step pattern details are selected from Italian sources. "This is described as a couple dance. It indicates that the ladies of the Inns of Court were not expected to be too genteel as they were given the opportunity to 'heave up ye man'. " (Anne Daye, Revels for 1588). "Honour Take hands, fall in to your pace, part with your pace, traverse sydeways, meet with your pace, & heave upp ye woman in your armes, part again, pace, traverse meete again, the woman heave up ye man, honor & soe ends."
