Standing TFL/ITB Stretch

In this video I am demonstrating the standing TFL/ITB stretch. This is great for increasing flexibility in the side trunk and front of hip. This can help with back pain, nerve irritation of the spine, or hip pain. Instructions: 1) Stand with the stretching foot crossed over behind the opposite foot. Find a neutral, long spine posture. 2) While maintaining the long spine posture, press your hips towards the stretching side. 3) Then reach the arm on the side you want to stretch overhead (i.e. to stretch LEFT lower back reach LEFT arm overhead). Focus on reaching the arm up and away from to lengthen through the side without crunching on the opposite side. 4) With the arm overhead, slowly rotate your torso to the RIGHT and LEFT to get different stretches. Only move through a pain free range. 5) Hold and repeat as prescribed by your physical therapist. 6) Repeat on the other side if instructed to do so. Repeat exercise as prescribed by your physical therapist. TIPS: -You want to keep length through the spine throughout the exercise. Avoid crunching on the opposite side. -You do not want to be aggressive with the stretch. You should be able to relax in the stretch and not feel your body tensing up. If you feel like your body is tensing then back off on the stretch. -If you feel numbness or tingling into your arm, torso, or legs stop the exercise and speak to your physical therapist. -You can lean against a wall if you need support during the hold. -To intensify the stretch, you can give a gentle pull with your opposite arm.
