Strathfield Greens - SL05

In this video we see SL05 collecting green waste bins in Strathfield Council on a sunny Wednesday morning on its third load for the day of heavy green waste. SL05 works throughout the week (Monday-Thursday) as the only truck collecting greenwaste in the Strathfield LGA, servicing on average about 1,500 bins every day and completing a solid four loads in an average 7-8 hour time frame. SL05 is the permanent truck used by Sita Australia for the Strathfield Greens "agreement" contract, SL05 starts collecting at 3am and is usually completed by 10-11am, doing four solid loads of vegetation on most days of the week. SL05 is a 1996 International Acco and with a Macdonald Johnston MkIII body. This truck is certainly reaching near the end of its life at Sita as there is news that they will not be renewing the rego for this truck when it runs out in June/July 2015, which means it will either be scrapped or sold. This truck is around 20 years old and even though it still goes strong picking up bins daily, it is not worthwhile for Sita to have an old truck like this one in there fleet. This truck has certainly done its rounds around Sydney, believed to be a former Collex (Veolia) truck in the old Ryde contract picking up the garbage bins and then in 2006 being sold to WSN to be used for the short stint of a contract over in Parramatta. After WSN finished up in Parramatta this truck was kept as a spare by WSN in the Eastern Creek Yard, originally used as a spare in the Fairfield Recycle contract and later on shared between Fairfield and Ryde when needed as a spare. In the recent few years and up until to this date SL05 has been used as a permanent truck over in Strathfield collecting the greens, where it will remain until retired from service by Sita Australia. After hearing the news that this trucks time was coming to an end it was a must for me to head over to Strathfield to see this "old girl" handling the lines of green bins in the quiet streets of Strathfield on a sunny Wednesday morning at around 7am. After entering the collection zone on that Wednesday straight away I heard and saw the truck in the distance and it was a sigh of relief as he had just started his third load which meant there was ample time to get some good shots. Mick is the awesome driver behind the wheel of SL05 and was good to catch up with him again and get his beloved SL05 "old girl" on video and make sure it was in the "history books" for many years to come and he is also one of the neatest drivers out of the Eastern Creek yard, as you will see in the video.
