PAST BOARD EXAM PROBLEMS Structural Engineering & Construction Situation 6 A diagonal strut is subjected to a force P = 75kN. The strut has a hollow square cross-section of wall thickness, 12mm, angle theta is 45 degrees, gusset plat thickness is 16mm, base plat thickness is 16mm, pin diameter is 18mm. The base plate is anchored to the concrete base by 4-20mm diameter bolts. 1. Calculate the bearing stress between the pin and the gusset plate. (130.2 MPa); 2. Calculate the bearing stress between the anchor bolt and the base plate. (41.43 MPa); and 3. Calculate the shear stress in the anchor bolts. (42.20 MPa). Credits: 1.
