Table saw blade guard
Originally on Attila's Workshop channel Aug 2019 To be fair the blade guard that came with my table saw is actually very good as a guard. It covers the blade well, it certainly looks cool, kinda like a sports car, but when it comes to dust extraction, it falls well short. Sure if I wanted to hook up a shop vac and run that at the same time as my cyclone then I could get some reasonable performance out of it. But Ideally I'd like to run the under and over dust extraction off the same machine, and for that the volume of air that can be moved from the guard, through the very small diameter hose is almost useless. So here I make a new guard that will allow a much greater volume of air to be removed from around the blade, and this will just run off the same hose as the main table saw line. When I started building, the plan was to have an arm reaching over the saw to carry the guard and I remembered that old telescopic tape measure that came in handy for the circle jig I made a while back. This turned out to be long enough to reach the roof, so I decided to see if this was a good idea. And it seems OK. I can just push the whole lot up above my head when not needed and lower it to any Height when circumstances require it. So how does it work for dust removal? Early testing is promising and I always have the option to go with 100mm hose just by replacing the black step down adaptor.
