Teach Visualization for Better Comprehension & Writing
Today I taught a 30-minute lesson with 4th graders using The Magic Nesting Doll by Patricia K. Ogburn to show students how and why readers visualize. We explored the powerful reading–writing connection, learning that authors choose specific descriptive language on purpose to help readers see the story in their minds. To anchor our thinking, I connected the lesson to the Visualizing & Verbalizing® (Linda Mood-Bell) structure words and helped students understand that real reading is more than decoding; it’s decoding plus visualizing, thinking, and meaning-making. The engagement was incredible, and students walked away knowing: ✔️ Authors paint pictures with words ✔️ Visualization supports comprehension ✔️ Strong readers decode and create mental images ✔️ Add structure words and descriptive language when you write 📚 This full lesson with all the resources is available inside the Reading Rev VIP Vault, along with hundreds of structured literacy lessons made just for intermediate teachers! 🔗 Access the lesson here: 👉 Reading Rev VIP Vault #ScienceOfReading #StructuredLiteracy #ReadingComprehension #Visualization #UpperElementaryReading #VisualizingAndVerbalizing #ReadingRev #VIPVault #ExplicitInstruction ____________________ We have many resources to help you gain confidence in teaching literacy: Website: https://readingrev.com Freebie Library: https://readingrev.com Reading Rev’s Complete Phonics & Spelling Program: https://shop.readingrev.com https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Reading-Rev ____________________ You might be interested in these videos: Wordle for Kids!
