Topic 5: Strategies for Vocabulary Teaching with Dr Sue Ollerhead
Assimilating vocabulary is an important part of language learning. We cannot convey meaning without vocabulary. This module will look at ways in which teachers can overtly facilitate the process of vocabulary learning, both through content and integrated learning (CLIL) and Presentation-Practice-Production (PPP) sequencing. Topics to be covered include: selecting key lexical items to stimulate topic-based language learning, developing awareness of a wide range of vocabulary resources available, particularly visual aids, to sequence and structure learning.
Dr Sue Ollerhead has worked extensively as a teacher, teacher trainer and researcher in South Africa, Egypt, the United Kingdom and Australia. She is co-editor of the book Plurilingualism in Teaching and Learning: Complexities across Contexts (2018).
