Technical diving skills- Regulator switch
Switching regulators is normally the first skill you learn on a technical diving course. Buoyancy, trim, and awareness need to stay during any skill. The head stays up at all times. Where the head goes, the body will follow. We hold our breath when the reg is removed, so the habit of taking a huge breath before doing so needs to be broken. A normal breath in the middle of the lungs should be all it takes to stay in the same place, otherwise you may have been using your lungs to compensate for too much or too little gas in the wing. Clipping off the longhose is done with one hand, and should be straight-forward, providing that the harness and D-ring are et up correctly, and practise has built the muscle memory. It should still be possible to do this with thick drygloves on. Finally, notice how purging the regulator is done by using the purge button. This is a good habit to get into. If you are out of gas and at the bottom of your lungs, you cannot blast the water out of the mouthpiece. You will instinctively press the purge button if you do it this way all the time.
