Flash back to my first CD player for my friend Eric who got one of these just before me. This was Technics' second CD player following behind the SL-P7 the year before. It was more expensive than I care to think about but it was really well built. I just got it working again after using belt conditioner on the belt drive/laser belts. I also replaced all the LEDs on the front panel because some had burnt out. (I thought LEDs were suppose to last longer than me, not true!) This thing is really a beast and for the most part still works well. The really don't make things like this anymore! One of the most interesting features of this CD player is the pitch change option which I've never seen on any other CD player. Another less obvious thing is the spindle drive motor. This is a pretty cool 4-coil brushless motor with the coils mounted flat on the board. I haven't figured out how it monitored the speed, but I have the schematics and may try to figure it out. I can't find any pictures of this, but it's really cool in my opinion. If I open it up again I'll think about disassembling the disc loader to take pictures, but I really prefer to avoid that.
