Telepathic Chronicles 169 ( PGH)
"Telepathic Chronicles 169 (PGH)": In 2018 Slavek Kwi, an Ireland-based sound artist, proposed a series of simultaneities in which participants would play on the same date & time but in different locations. The idea was to engender a psychic connection between the players that would be in the spirit of a friendly telepathic unity. I participated in the 2nd one & stopped for 7 years until participating in the 154th. I've been joined in this by my collaborator Ben Opie on most of these Telepathic Chronicles & by Kenny Haney on 2 & Roger Dannenberg on one. This particular session was on April 1, 2026. Every time Ben & I get together to play we try to use different instrumentation in order to inspire different (m)usics. For this session, I (tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE) used a Korg Kronos sampler, a Micro-Korg synthesizer, & 2 Korg Volca synths. Ben played a Yamaha wind controller that he'd used very little in the past. To make things a little more different, I proposed to Ben that he used this pitch set: A, #A, B, C, #C, D while I used #D, E, F, #F, G, #G. That way we each had half of a chromatic scale. Each of our Telepathic Chronicles pleases me very much, each has a very clear identity to me. Given that Ben & I are both old men who've been playing for a long time, each session manifests a long-acquired skill & fluidity. - April 3, 2026 notes from tENTATIVELY. a cONVENIENCE
