Terrain Slope Calculation Methodology Using PPK UAV | TOPODRONE
Chailuri Fortress in Kakheti is a remarkable example of medieval fortification architecture. Today, its preservation depends directly on a careful study of the surrounding terrain and soil conditions. Traditional surveying methods cannot provide a complete picture: topographical features and vegetation obscure parts of the fortress, while different soil types affect the stability of the walls in varying ways. The optimal solution is UAV photogrammetry combined with PPK technology. The TOPODRONE team conducted a survey using: ➖ DJI Matrice 350 RTK with a TOPODRONE P24 photogrammetric camera ➖ TOPODRONE PPK module with virtual RINEX (CORS), providing georeferencing with 3–5 cm accuracy without the need for a ground base station Flight plan: nadir and oblique images captured from multiple heights to highlight the walls and eliminate inaccessible terrain areas. 🌐 Data processing workflow: ➖ Trajectory post-processing in TOPODRONE Post Processing (TPP) ➖ Model construction in Agisoft Metashape (aerotriangulation, point cloud generation, classification, DTM, orthophoto production) 🖥 Outcome: a high-precision 3D point cloud model of the fortress and its surroundings, forming the basis for: ✅ Slope calculation ✅ Foundation stability analysis ✅ Monitoring of soil settlement and changes ℹ️ The combination of TPP, Agisoft, and PPK is an effective tool for assessing soil conditions, predicting structural deformations, and planning restoration works.
