The Sacred Flame
Brothers and sisters, it’s funny how a simple flame can pull us together from out of the cold. I rember standing near a fire just one night long ago, shivering a little in the damp evening chill while the wind tried its absolute best to rattle the windows, and I found myself just watching the way the sparks drifted upward and disappeared into the dark—a sudden, sharp reminder of how fragile we all really are. This meditation, "The Sacred Flame," is born entirely out of that feeling. That deep, almost primal recognition that we are meant to be a kindred woven through the mists of time, not just isolated souls shivering alone in the modern wilderness. It’s a bit audacious, really. To believe we are the very first green shoots of a world made new, but that’s the beautiful, scandalous claim of the gospel, isn't it? Sometimes the grand theological concepts feel so lofty they practically float away from us. So we have to anchor them. We bring them down to a wooden table. To a simple cup and the tactile, earthy crumble of bread. Because where two or three are bound in His name, well... the sacred flame burns right there in the mundane. Right there in the local blend where the thin places are suddenly, unexpectedly found. Here are a few waypoints as we gather around the table: [00:17] Declaring our belief in the great coracle of God, sailing the exact same tides where the ancient saints have trod. [00:51] Acknowledging Christ as the firm foundation, the head of the light. [01:44] Discovering the thin place in our local gatherings, an actual embassy of heaven resting on earthly ground. [02:12] Finding the warmth of the maker's will, and the sacred flame that burns whenever we gather in His name. [03:12] Gathering gladly at the wooden table, feasting in that space where heaven and earth finally, beautifully meet. May the light of that fire warm you completely, deep into the marrow.
