The library of Scripture isn’t easy to understand. It was written thousands of years ago, in another culture, by dozens of different authors, and in a variety of literary genres. What’s more, for many in a post-Christian culture, the commands in Scripture are hard to accept, much less obey. And yet for Jesus, this library was the frame for his entire life. And so for apprentices of Jesus, the process of learning what the text says — to the original audience and to us today — is key to living under the timeless wisdom of God.
